Hybrid Architecture to Provide 27 TeraFLOPS of Peak Computing Power
South Africa's largest HPC environment at the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) in Cape Town will offer 27 teraflops - or 27 trillion floating point operations per second - of performance supported by Sun hardware and software solutions, including massive SPARC-based servers. Sun, along with local partners Eclipse Networks and Breakpoint Solutions, will provide the infrastructure for Phase II of this world-class high performance computing facility.

HP to Distribute and Support Solaris on HP ProLiant Servers [21429]
Sun and HP Expand OEM and Support Agreement
A new original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and support agreement between Sun and HP will make Sun a strategic HP ProLiant OS distribution partner and Solaris will be part of the lineup of key operating environments for the HP ProLiant platform. Announced February 25, the expanded multi-year partnership agreement will allow HP to distribute and provide software technical support for Solaris 10 OS on the HP ProLiant server and blade system platforms.

Sun HPC Cluster Slated for University of Zurich [21217]
Based on 576 Sun Blade Servers, Cluster Will Rank Around 50 of Top500 Supercomputers
The supercomputer to be deployed at the University of Zurich will rank as number 50 in the Top500 list of supercomputers. It is based on 576 Sun Blade servers that are powered by the Intel Xeon processor that is codenamed Nehalem. It is scheduled to go online in late summer 2009. One of the largest HPC machines in Switzerland, the Zurich computer is unique in its compact design, efficient QDR InfiniBand network, ingenious cooling system, fast and high-capacity storage systems. The cluster will also take advantage of the Lustre parallel file system.
