Oracle's Sun Java Wireless Client is now available for Qualcomm's Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP). This means Oracle's Java implementation for mobile handsets is now pre-integrated with Brew MP, giving handset manufacturers and developers a turnkey solution to incorporate Java technology into mobile devices based on Brew MP in a consistent manner across devices.
The JavaFX and Java platforms are being used as the Official Rich Client Technology by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). The historical Winter Games medal results will be available online through an innovative JavaFX application called Medal Wheel.
A modular version of Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) could be on the horizon, at least that's what Jeet Kaul, vice president of Sun's client software group, told The Register. The goal is to make this version available sometime in 2010, allowing netbooks running Java to offer more of the kinds of features used in cell phones and bring functionality found on laptops to some smart phones.
Sun is working closely with Verizon Wireless to help foster the recently launched Verizon Developer Community (VDC). Sun is providing key technologies and services to support VDC and help build the V CAST Apps storefront, scheduled to launch later this year. Developers who have created apps for platforms such as Java, BREW, Android, Windows Mobile and others are welcome to join the VDC and submit concepts and applications for V CAST Apps.
New technologies and updates introduced, and some revisited, during the 2009 JavaOne Conference include the new Java Store, JavaFX 1.2 platform, Java SE 6 Update 14, JavaFX TV, JavaFX Authoring Tool and enhancements to the Sun GlassFish Portfolio, specifically Sun GlassFish Web Stack, Sun GlassFish Web Space Server and Java EE 6 Preview.
