19 Jan 2011 Which Java EE 6 App Server: JBoss 6.0 or GlassFish 3.x? [23832]
Or Maybe Oracle WebLogic 10.3.4

With all the app servers now available (and forthcoming) for Java EE 6, it's helpful to have some expert guidance when deciding which to adopt. This is exactly what Arun Gupta provides in his blog post "Which Java EE 6 App Server: JBoss 6.0 or GlassFish 3.x?" Gupta points out some of the shortcomings in the JBoss app server (no SLA; JavaEE 6 web profile compliance only; minimal documentation), which make it less than ideal for a production environment in his view. An even stronger candidate than GlassFish 3.x, he suggests, is the soon to be released Oracle WebLogic 11g 10.3.4, which promises integration with Coherence, Fusion Apps and sophisticated deployment scenarios.

10 Jan 2011 GlassFish in 2010 [23819]
A Good Year to Turn Five

Things really started happening in a positive way for GlassFish in 2010 when, in March, reports The Aquarium the issuance of the roadmap made it clear that Oracle was committed to the open source project. That was followed in June by the the "100-day" (Oracle-branded 3.0.1) release to coincide with the five-year celebration of GlassFish and, following in a matter of days, five years for The Aquarium itself.

29 Dec 2010 VirtualBox Development Images [23777]
NetBeans/JavaEE/GlassFish Combo

The Aquarium reminds readers that three VirtualBox development images -- SOA & BPM Development, Database App Development, and Java Development -- have been made available as VirtualBox images loaded with all the necessary software that enables users to get on with things the moment they log on to the system. As an example of the inclusive nature of these development environments, The Aquarium notes that the Java Development image uses Oracle Linux version 5, JDK 6, Java FX 1.3.1, NetBeans IDE 6.9.1, and GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.0.1 -- everything one might need to get started with Java EE 6 development and you'll even find three labs (with code and instructions) to start using JSF 2, JAX-RS 1.1, EJB 3.1, Servlet 3.0, JPA 2.0 and CDI 1.0.
