System Administrator's Kit and Provide Six-Month Customer Evaluation
Period

SAN JOSE AND SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- December 16, 2002 -- BEA Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), and Sun Microsystems today announced an agreement
to distribute an evaluation version of BEA WebLogic Server 7.0[tm] with
the Solaris[tm] 9 Operating Environment System Administrator's Kit. The
agreement is intended to maximize customer choice for J2EE[tm]
application servers for enterprise and Web services, and provide
customers a trial license of BEA WebLogic Server 7.0. Beginning with
the January release of Solaris 9, BEA is slated to offer a six-month
trial license with each WebLogic Server 7.0 distributed via the Solaris
9 System Adminstrator's Kit.

Solaris 9 is a key component of the Sun[tm] Open Net Environment
(Sun[tm] ONE), an open, integratable product portfolio designed to
enable the development and delivery of Java Web services. The
initiative demonstrates BEA and Sun's J2EE technology alignment as well
as commitment to customer choice and success.  The combined products
help provide significant advantages to customers including speed of
deployment, solution flexibility, interoperability, profitability and
24x7 operations.

and the open, integratable approach to enterprise and Net-based
computing."
