Sun's line of Galaxy servers will be adding an eight-socket version as well as a new blade server, reports Darrell Dunn with InformationWeek, who quotes Sun Executive Vice President John Fowler of the company's Network Systems Group as saying this will address the server consolidation and database server market and re-enter Sun into the blade server market.
Replacement models for the Sun Fire V440 servers that are in compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive of the European Union should be generally available March 20, 2006. Features of the Sun Fire V440 systems remain the same as the previous version other than these new systems are fully compliant with required standards of the RoHS.
