New Options and Tools for the Sun Ultra 20 Workstation Dual-core and Single-core Processing, Graphics and Development Tools
The Sun UltraTM 20 Workstation now has two new CPU options, two graphics accelerator options and improved pre-installed software development tools. These new options include dual-core processing capability, single core workstation processor, high-end 3D workstation-class graphics, entry-level 3D workstation-class graphics, the Sun JavaTM Studio Enterprise 8 and NetBeansTM integrated development environment (IDE).
Specifics on these newly announced features are as follows:
Dual Core: The Sun Ultra 20 Workstation incorporates the AMD Opteron Processor Model 180 (dual 2.4 Ghz cores). This is the first time the Ultra 20 Workstation has offered dual-core processing capability, which will benefit customers with multi-threaded applications.
Single Core: Incorporating the AMD Opteron Processor Model 154 (single 2.8 Ghz core), the Sun Ultra 20 Workstation now offers the fastest single core workstation processor available to satisfy customers with investments in single-threaded applications.
High-End 3D Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450 Graphics Accelerator fulfills an unmet need for Ultra 20 Workstation customers who demand high-end 3D workstation-class graphics. With this option, the workstation reduces the cycles in design because it delivers an accurate interpretation of the final model.
Entry-Level 3D Graphics: The Sun Ultra 20 Workstation incorporates the NVIDIA Quadro FX 540 Graphics Accelerator for customers requiring entry-level 3D workstation-class graphics.
Java Studio Enterprise 8: The Sun Ultra 20 Workstation comes pre-installed with an updated version of Java Studio Enterprise 8. This IDE is designed for enterprise architects and developers and offers the functionality needed to develop, debug, tune and test enterprise applications, web services and portal components based on JavaTM Platform, Enterprise Edition (JavaTM EE) standards.
NetBeans 4.1 IDE: Also comes pre-installed for the first time with the Sun Ultra 20 Workstation. NetBeans IDE is for enterprise developers who want to have all their productivity tools under one umbrella. It offers out-of-the-box support for open standards and technologies.
The Sun Ultra 20 Workstation offers seamless migration to 64-bit computing through support for both 64-bit and 32-bit applications. It is capable of running Linux and Windows platforms as well as the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS), which comes preloaded with version 10 along with fully-licensed versions of Sun's enterprise-class development software, namely Sun JavaTM Studio Creator, SunTM Studio 10 and the above listed Java Studio Enterprise.
