A Limited Quantity, Limited Time Promotion

Sun President and COO Jonathan Schwartz is inviting customers to try Sun's Niagara Sun Fire T2000 servers free for 60 days. In his December 18th weblog, Schwartz even promised that some talented respondents may even get to keep their server for free.

Branded Zones Community Newest Addition to OpenSolaris
To Advance Interoperability with Linux and Other UNIX Systems

OpenSolaris has a new community and application framework known as Branded Zones or BrandZ that will eventually enable users of the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) to run Linux applications, Darwin, Mac OS X's underlying operating system and FreeBSD programs, reported Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols with eWeek.

High-Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance Announced
Mission: Set Design Guidelines for Secure HD AV Networks

Industry leaders have joined together to form the High-Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance (HANA) whose goal is to create a design guideline for secure high definition audio visual networks that will speed the creation of new, higher quality, easier to use HD products. Founding members include Charter Communications, JVC, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc., NBC Universal, Samsung and Sun Microsystems.

Sun Selected for a Major Telecom Initiative With the FAA
Sun Solution Noted as a Model for Government Integration, Modernization Projects

Three years ago, the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) contracted with Harris Corporation to fully implement and meet timelines for the FTI; and in turn, Harris selected Sun to deploy an IT system for FTI Network Operations Center. Sun's successful deployment of hardware and software IT solutions for FTI was heralded this past week.
