SunTM Studio 11 software, the latest release of Sun's optimizing compilers and tools for the C, C++ and Fortran developer, is now available and can be downloaded free from the Sun Web site. Currently, this release is offered as an English-only download. Its multilanguage version that includes English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese is expected to be available for download on December 19, 2005.
This new release of Sun Studio software is available for the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS) (SPARCR Platform Edition) and x86/x64 platforms. Tools without compilers are also available for Linux x86/x64 platforms.
Sun Studio 11 software compilers allow developers to leverage the latest in parallel programming and maximize throughput on multi-core systems. This new version delivers optimizations and performance for the development of scalable 32-bit and 64-bit applications on Sun's newest hardware platforms including the latest multi-core UltraSPARCR, x64 and x86 platforms.
It should be noted that single-threaded applications can also gain benefits as the compilers in Sun Studio 11 can identify opportunities to parallelize execution and automatically, without source-code changes, produce back-end code to take advantage of these opportunities.
Sun Studio 11 software is integrated into a fully-featured IDE. It includes an advanced graphical debugger and a suite of performance analysis tools that simplifies the development process for even sophisticated programming needs.
Before donwloading, this software requires a memory of 512 MB and 1 GB of swap space. The disk space required is listed as 1.7 GB for the Solaris OS (SPARC Platform Edition), 1.1 GB for the Solaris OS on x86 platforms and .8 GB for Linux platforms. Additionally, the JavaTM Platform, Standard Edition (JavaTM SE) technology 1.4.2_08 or 5.0 update 3 is required.
Sun Studio 11 software does include some third-party technologies governed by their own licenses and are subject to the Software License Agreement.
