New Alloy Design for the Sun Rack Cabinets
Functional Improvements with Aesthetic Appeal

Sun customers, partners and resellers who need to rack and power their data center network products and are looking to simplify and speed deployment of new systems may want to consider the new alloy look design of SunTM Rack Cabinets. These will be generally available October 13th for the SR2-938A: SunTM Rack 900-38, SR2-1038A: SunTM Rack 1000-38 and SR2-1042A: SunTM Rack 1000-42. SR2-936N: SunTM Rack 900-36N also is available in this alloy look but the original design of the doors will remain the same.

This new alloy look matches the appearance of the newest line of Sun servers and desktops. The rack's front door is redesigned with more gripping surface for moving ease, greater door depth to fit products inside the rack and stronger hinges that allow for 180 degree opening of the cabinet. These updated cabinets also have wider, hexagonal perforations on the front door for greater air flow in and out of the cabinet as well as better visibility to system status indicators.

Other benefits in these latest designed cabinets include additional room for front cables and products with deep bezels (Sun FireTM V890, HP, DELL, IBM, EMC); and more air plenum to help with dense server cooling.

In addition, four X-option standard configurations of the new alloy design racks are being announced. These configurations provide 72 outlets and 32 AMP or 60 AMP modules to power products within the rack. The new configurations include a power jumper cable kit containing ten 1 meter and ten 2.5 meter cables to connect the product to the power strip. For these configurations, select one of the following part numbers:

  • SR2-1038-X32TPL: Sun Rack 1000-38 Alloy Design, 22A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1042-X32TPL: Sun Rack 1000-42 Alloy Design, 32A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1038-X60TPL: Sun Rack 1000-38 Alloy Design, 60A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1042-X60TPL: Sun Rack 1000-42 Alloy Design, 60A Three-Phase MPS

To simplify and speed system deployment, customers have the option to order a factory integrated system in these new Sun Rack Cabinets through the SunSM Customer Ready Systems (CRS) program. These systems can be comprised of any Sun and complementary third-party products qualified.

These new alloy Sun Rack Cabinet configurations are available for factory integrated Sun Grid Rack Systems for the following:

  • SR2-1038-32TPL Sun Rack 1000-38 Alloy Design, 32A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1042-32TPL Sun Rack 1000-42 Alloy Design, 32A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1038-60TPL Sun Rack 1000-38 Alloy Design, 60A Three-Phase MPS
  • SR2-1042-60TPL Sun Rack 1000-42 Alloy Design, 60A Three-Phase MPS

All options previously offered with Sun Rack Cabinets are also available with the new alloy designed racks. It should be noted that the original design racks also will continue to be available.

Sun Rack Cabinets are designed with a building block approach that maximizes resource allocation opportunities. They offer greater space utilization, flexibility and manageability so they can be incorporated into settings from the largest data centers to small deployment situations.

All Sun Rack Cabinets are 19-inch Electronic Industries Association (EIA) standard EIA-310-D rack enclosures. [...read more...]
