Build 20 of OpenSolaris Now Available for Download
Delivery Includes Source for IP and Related Modules

Build 20 of OpenSolaris is now available for download, including the source for IP and related modules, particularly the IPSec code. First-time downloaders are cautioned to install Solaris Express - Community Release Build 16 or later before installing OpenSolaris. This is recommended whether it is an initial install or an upgrade to Build 16 provided the Entire Distribution metacluster is used.

This delivery of the OpenSolaris Buildable Source consists of the following six pieces:

  • Source tarball (opensolaris-src-DATE.tar.bz2)
  • Encumbered binaries tarball (opensolaris-closed-bins-DATE.PLATFORM.tar.bz2)
  • Compiler: SunTM Studio 10 is the preferred compiler and it is free for OpenSolaris community members. The gcc also can be used, if preferred.*
  • ON build tools package (SUNWonbld-DATE.PLATFORM.tar.bz2)
  • SPARCR platforms have additional build tools (opensolaris-build-extras-DATE.PLATFORM.tar.bz2)
  • Pre-built BFU archives (opensolaris-bfu-DATE.PLATFORM.tar.bz2)

The majority of OpenSolaris code is released under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) Version 1.0. Source based on existing open source projects will continue to be available under their current licenses. Some binary components are covered under the OpenSolaris Binary License and some are covered under other open source licenses. Information on these licenses are available at the OpenSolaris Web site.

* Note: The changes needed to build with gcc have not yet been integrated into the OpenSolaris source base. Information on the issues, the necessary choices and the instructions for building with gcc is available on the OpenSolaris gcc project page. [...read more...]
