Collaboration Produces Draft Specifications, Systems Support and More

After one year of collaboration, Sun and Microsoft revealed the status on the interoperability of their products with several announcements that included new draft specifications addressing web single sign-on (SSO) and single protocol, Sun systems support of Windows and the licensing of Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol for Sun Ray ultra-thin clients.

Sun Helps Power the High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory
Technologies to Quadruple Current Compute Power Capacity

The High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory (HPCVL) estimates its computing power and storage will quadruple with its recent selection of Sun technologies chosen to support its High Performance Computing (HPC) Center. The CAD$22 million purchase will assist the Canadian research organization in increasing result times for its complex scientific and economic projects.

Turns Desktops into Heterogeneous, Browsing Environments

A new technology developed at Sun reportedly allows any application to run on any operating system. Dubbed Chameleon, this technology works independently of the programming language originally used to create the application and runs on any platform that is equipped with a Java-based client software.
