Sun's new global Client Solutions engagement model brings together more than 10,000 experts through six new global Client Solutions practices to provide customers with improved access to Sun's industry expertise and iForceSM partner solutions.

Teams of experts have been assembled to deliver solutions through six different global practice areas:

  • Data Center: The Service Optimized Data Center Program will assist businesses in analyzing their existing IT infrastructure to determine the specific areas contributing to its performance and the ones depleting its capabilities. Experienced Sun consultants use repeatable methodologies to develop solutions for organizations to help reduce costs, increase operational efficiencies and generate additional revenue streams.

  • Enterprise Web Services: Continually striving to increase revenues and decrease IT costs, businesses also must contend with remaining agile, secure and comply with new regulations - all within their IT infrastructure. Sun delivers scalable Web Services solutions that can help increase operational and application efficiency through infrastructure and application solutions.

  • Identity Management: Corporations need to integrate new ways of conducting business while simultaneously ensuring that information assets remain secure. Using repeatable methodologies, Sun's experienced consultants will develop identity management solutions for organizations aimed at meeting these goals.

  • Desktop and Mobility: Sun has dedicated desktop and mobility expertise and resources to provide secure, functional computing to a mobile talent pool. Sun consultants offer knowledge and experience to a designed set of tools and methodologies to support rapid integration and tailored solutions.

  • Manageability Services: Sun manageability service experts enable businesses to optimize their IT operations by increasing availability, mitigating risk, decreasing unplanned outages and maximizing operational efficiencies. Sun uses an innovative multisourcing model to build an appropriate, customized solution for each client.

  • Storage and Data Management: Effective management of information assets is critical in optimizing business performance and productivity. Sun offers a comprehensive information strategy to help minimize business risk, optimize resource utilization, lower total cost of ownership, reduce the cost and complexity of maintaining regulatory compliance.

As the engagement and delivery component of Sun's Global Sales Organization, these Client Solutions will utilize an integrated approach that concentrates the strengths of Sun's key partnerships to deliver business solutions. These solutions leverage blueprints, reference architectures, technical principles and a network of global practices to reduce customers' costs and complexities.

Through the use of diagnostic tools and workshops to determine the state of an organization's current environment and outline plans for future growth, Sun experts have three general steps to engagement:

  • Step 1 Assess the organization: Sun experts will conduct a two-day workshop to identify key customer requirements; a total cost of ownership (TCO) assessment; and then develop a preliminary roadmap

  • Step 2 Finalize the plan, manage the roadmap: Includes a two-week assessment and planning activity; establish a two- to three-year roadmap and outlook for projects; and integrate tactical solutions into the overall IT strategy

  • Step 3 Apply and implement plans for bottom line results: Determine services for all the projects on the roadmap; secure an overall program office to provide oversight to the initiatives; and outline a technology strategy and governance process as new technologies are introduced into the industry

"We have streamlined our Client Services organization to more effectively identify and then deliver valuable, repeatable solutions with products, technologies and services that solve our customers' most critical business needs," said Chris Ostertag, vice president, Global Client Solutions at Sun. "By applying Sun's best practices, including reference architectures, blueprints and customer-ready systems in each of the solutions, we are enabling customers to increase their bottom-line results."
