Securing the Modern Data Center Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series
Enterprise and service provider environments now have access to an ISO/OSI Layer 4-7 device that is easy to integrate into existing infrastructures with the SunTM Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series. This Sun product integrates gigabit wire-speed application switching, chip-level embedded security and dynamic resource virtualization.
Key benefits:
Multigigabit wire-speed SSL encryption without compromising performance
Virtual switch capability that enables resource consolidation
Integrates easily into existing infrastructures
ISO/OSI Layer 4-7 device
Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) through its resource consolidation
Providing multigigabit wire-speed SSL encryption for end-to-end application security, this Sun solutions protects enterprise data from external and internal threats without the performance trade-offs usually associated with these measures. The Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series is the only device that can consolidate load balancing and SSL encryption at multigigabit speeds.
Inspecting all incoming and outgoing traffic, including encrypted traffic, the Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series pro-actively filters and can preempt incoming and outgoing application-level attacks without degrading throughput.
"One of our customers is a medical center. They use the switch to encrypt all traffic related to medical records. The Sun Secure Application Switch – N2000 Series is so high performing that they can choose to do that," said John Fowler, executive vice president, Network Systems Group, Sun.
This Sun switch incorporates a custom, high-performing chipset that is composed of four custom components for gigabit-scaled TCP termination and policy processing. It functions as a full hardware TCP proxy with the capability to terminate all inbound flows within the architecture and then regenerate new flows directed toward servers.
This chipset is designed to accelerate the processing of data objects in the application data stream and provides extremely fine-grained control over network data flow in general.
Matt Rollender, Sun senior group marketing manager, says the Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series is an essential aspect of Sun's strategy in offering customers distributed network computing with reasonable price/performance, security and manageability.
"Enterprise customers can cut data center capital expense costs by deploying the Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series. Even better, these savings can translate into operating expense savings," Rollender said. "The switch lets data centers eliminate and consolidate costly specialized components such as legacy load-balancers, SSL accelerators and bandwidth management appliances. Fewer boxes mean fewer headaches."
Offering virtual switching technology, this Sun switch helps drive data center consolidation. With this virtual switching capability data center operators can configure up to 10 virtual switches from one physical platform. The virtual switches are fully partitioned from one another, ensuring complete resource isolation and translates into fewer specialized appliances and simpler management.
"Sun is the only company that can provide dynamic resource virtualization throughout the entire data center," says Rollender. "The Sun Secure Application Switch - N2000 Series lets customers lower TCO by consolidating costly, specialized networking and security equipment, while scaling horizontally with high-performance servers."
