The new Sun RayTM Building Block Bundle is a complete Sun Ray solution being offered by Sun that includes the Sun RayTM Server Software 3.0, Sun JavaTM Desktop System, Sun FireTM V20z servers and either the Sun RayTM 1G or Sun RayTM 170 Ultra-thin clients.

With the Sun Ray Building Block Bundle, customers will receive a complete Sun Ray Ultra-thin client environment with the necessary hardware and software components for immediate deployment. The Sun Ray Building Block Bundle provides a single part number to order all the components of this Sun Ray product, including the Sun Java Desktop System.

This solution comes with preconfigured Sun Fire V20z servers, a 20 pack of Sun Ray Server Software seat licenses, Sun Ray Server Software media kit, 20 licenses for the Sun Java Desktop system, the Sun Java Desktop media kit and smart cards.

The packaged configuration of the Sun Fire V20z server is designed to handle the number of thin clients packaged as single concurrent users running office productivity suites and business applications. Predetermined sizing is based on one user per seat with typical office worker local applications. Additional Sun Ray desktops or users may be added depending on application load.

Key features:

• Stateless client design: With Sun Ray Ultra-thin clients, there are no operating systems, users or configuration state. System administrators do not need to maintain individual desktops in regards to maintenance. There is minimal theft or data risk, as the desktop is useless when removed from the environment and contains no trace of user or network information.

• Hot Desking: Through the use of smart cards, users are capable of maintaining their individual computing sessions on these cards. Users can disconnect and reconnect to their current sessions by reinserting their particular smart card into any Sun Ray Ultra-thin client on the network.

• Public Network Support: With the Sun Ray Server Software 3.0, a Sun Ray Ultra-thin client environment can be deployed on top of an existing network infrastructure. No special networking configuration or additional networking equipment costs are required.

• Low Power Consumption: The Sun Ray Ultra-thin client saves electricity and cooling expensives since it does not require large amounts of power to drive its stateless client designed desktop.

• Ease-of-Use: The user environment and associated applications are easy to learn through the use of an intuitive, single install mechanism; familiar desktop themes for file management and desktop configuration; standard keyboard short-cut conventions and direct access to files and servers using the "Documents" and "Network Places" directories.

• Full featured desktop client software: Including office suite, browser, email/calendar, instant messaging, project management, drawing and video conferencing applications.
