Sun Acquires SevenSpace
Will Extend Multi-Platform Managed Services Offerings

This agreement will position SevenSpace as an integral part of Sun Services.

Sun's acquirement of SevenSpace will broaden its SunSM Managed Services offerings to include heterogeneous environments that will add support for Hewlett-Packard's legacy HP-UX, IBM's AIX systems, Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux.

Announced November 29, 2004, Sun will acquire SevenSpace in an all cash transaction that is expected to close by the third quarter of Sun's 2005 fiscal year, ending March 27, 2005.

This agreement will position SevenSpace as an integral part of SunSM Services. A privately-held company based in Ashburn, Virginia, SevenSpace manages several outsourcing solutions including:

  • Enterprise applications that include SAP, Oracle e-business suites, PeopleSoft and Siebel
  • Databases for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Operating systems including SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS), Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms
  • Network devices

With SevenSpace, customers can maintain ownership of their people and heterogeneous IT assets. Due to this company's low equipment and people footprint, implementation of outsourcing solutions can be realized in days versus months or years.

Key to SevenSpace is their customer-defined solution methodology that enables customers to tailor an outsourced system management solution to their specific business needs and desired level of control. With remote system monitoring and management that feature high levels of operational efficiency and committed service levels, SevenSpace technologies and processes enable rapid identification, acknowledgment, assessment and resolution of system events as well as change control and system management.

Sun plans on offering SevenSpace capabilities as part of the Sun Services portfolio to its traditional markets. In addition, new service offerings will be developed to join SevenSpace technologies and processes with existing Connected Customer investments to address new market opportunities.

In the interim, SevenSpace will continue to support its customers as Sun integrates its support processes. Plans are for SevenSpace to be sold through direct and partner channels.
