Three new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions have been added to Sun's RFID portfolio in support of both its partners and customers. These new solutions include the SunTM RFID offering for iForceSM Partners, the Sun RFID retail compliance program and an RFID warehouse management solution that combines products and services from Sun, SIS Technologies and SSA Global.

  • The Sun RFID offering for iForce Partners: Part of the iForce Partner Program, this RFID solution will assist corporations in implementing this technology within their products by using components designed to drive knowledge transfer, technical understanding, solution development and demand creation.

  • The Sun RFID retail compliance program: This program adds a new dimension of compliance testing plus reconciliation testing to allow companies to go beyond tagging and shipping to focus on validation and repeatability.

  • RFID warehouse management solution: This integrated solution improves customer's ability to share up-to-date information about stock and goods in transit, and comply with new regulations mandated by large commercial and government departments.

These offerings are based on the Sun JavaTM System RFID Software Toolkit that simplifies the creation of RFID device adapters. It enables RFID devices, such as readers, to communicate with the Sun Java System RFID Software and leverage the NetBeansTM Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for reduced development time by more than 50 percent, potentially.

The Sun Java System RFID Software Toolkit allows customers to integrate their RFID readers and other devices with this software or custom-build device adapters for RFID deployment. Sun customers can receive a complete RFID system including hardware, software and services, which is delivered in conjunction with its best-of-class partners.

"We see partners as a critical component to building end-to-end RFID solutions that address real customer business problems," said Stephen Borcich, vice president, market and industry development at Sun. "By providing greater access to our RFID programs and technologies, we are making it easy for companies to participate with Sun on RFID initiatives."

"Sun has already gained a leadership role in the RFID space through our innovative RFID Test Center, our efforts with EPCglobal and our work with partners and customers," Borcich continued. "Our first RFID Test Center in Dallas, Texas, supports both partners and customers in getting early access to expertise, technology and a full test environment to verify solution readiness for actual deployment."
