Sun's AMD Opteron Processor-based Systems Enticing Linux Users
Sun Fire V20z, V40z, Sun Java Workstations Appeal with Speed, Interoperability

Sun's enhanced family of AMD Opteron processor-based systems is enticing customers with its offerings of record breaking speed [13519] and high performance that are now available with the Sun FireTM V20z and Sun FireTM V40z servers, the Sun JavaTM Workstation W1100z and Sun JavaTM Workstation W2100z, among others.

These Sun products offer Linux users industry-leading, high-performance 32- and 64-bit Opteron solutions that enable a choice of operating systems from Linux to Microsoft Windows to Sun's SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS).

Industry names taking advantage of these new products involve the following:

EDS

One of the nation's leading Web sites are utilizing iForceSM Partner EDS along with Sun servers equipped with AMD Opteron processors running the Linux operating system for a utility computing solution. The Sun Fire V40z systems are used to power Oracle9i application and database services, as Sun Fire V20z systems power its Web servers.

Audi AG

The SunSM Customer Ready systems program assisted in building and deploying a 318 Sun FireTM V60x and Sun FireTM V65x server cluster running Linux to perform crash simulation testing. This new Sun Linux cluster provides a higher total processor clock speed than the system it replaced, reaching speeds of up to 2000 gigahertz to streamline work for Audi's engineers.

ISV Ecosystem Participants

iForce development partners were offered Sun systems based on AMD Opteron processors to accelerates the availability and testing of industry-leading software solutions. ISV and independent hardware vendor (IHV) supporters, and early adopters of these solutions include 360Commerce, Adaptec Inc., Addonics Technologies Inc., Cadence Design Systems Inc., Check Point Software Technologies, DeepNines, ECNet Ltd, Emulex Corporation, Gene-IT, Geospiza Inc., INCOGEN, Iomega, IONA Technologies, Legato Software, Mainsoft Corporation, Mentor Graphics Corporation, Metapa, NeuSoft, Omnitron Systems Technology Inc., Oracle Corporation, PTC, QLogic Corp., Ronglian, SAP, Synopsys Inc., Tomax Corporation, Trend Micro, UGS, UFSoft, VERITAS, WizVision and Zend Technologies Inc.
