Sun's AMD Opteron Processor-based Systems Enticing Linux Users Sun Fire V20z, V40z, Sun Java Workstations Appeal with Speed, Interoperability
Sun's enhanced family of AMD Opteron processor-based systems is enticing customers with its offerings of record
breaking speed [13519] and high performance that are now available with the Sun FireTM V20z and Sun FireTM V40z servers, the Sun JavaTM Workstation W1100z and Sun JavaTM Workstation W2100z, among others.
These Sun products offer Linux users industry-leading, high-performance 32- and 64-bit Opteron solutions that enable a choice of operating systems from Linux to Microsoft Windows to Sun's SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS).
Industry names taking advantage of these new products involve the following:
EDS
One of the nation's leading Web sites are utilizing iForceSM Partner
EDS along with Sun servers equipped
with AMD Opteron processors running the Linux operating system for a utility computing solution. The Sun Fire V40z systems are used to power
Oracle9i application and database services, as Sun Fire V20z systems
power its Web servers.
Audi AG
The SunSM Customer Ready systems program assisted in building and deploying a 318 Sun FireTM
V60x and Sun FireTM V65x server cluster running Linux to perform crash
simulation testing. This new Sun Linux cluster provides a higher total processor clock speed than the system it
replaced, reaching speeds of up to 2000 gigahertz to streamline work for Audi's engineers.
