StorageTek, Sun Extend Commitment to Deliver Automated Tape Solutions Agreement Delivers the Goods for Enterprise, Midrange Consolidation
Sun and StorageTek have signed an OEM partnership agreement under which Sun
will market and sell StorageTek's StreamLine SL8500 array under its own Sun
StorEdgeTM brand, along with StorageTek's L-700e and L-180 tape libraries.
"The vision for Sun and StorageTek has always been to combine our
strengths in the most supportive, strategic way possible, and to
jointly deliver the best automated tape technology solutions the market
has seen to date to the benefit of our global customer base," said
Philip Belcher, Managing Director for StorageTek Australia/New
Zealand. "As we enter the sixth year of our partnership we mark today's
success by offering the full feature set for enterprise-class
solutions: multi-platform support, tiered tape storage, automation of
management and opportunity for lower overall storage cost of
ownership."
"Sun is committed to improving the way data is accessed and managed and
as a result of our partnership with StorageTek we are in a position to
realize exciting new revenue opportunities," said Jim Hassell, Managing
Director, Sun Microsystems Australasia.
The first offering in StorageTek's next-generation StreamLine family of
enterprise information lifecycle management solutions, the SL8500
provides unmatched consolidation capabilities, high availability,
performance and scalability at the same time it minimizes its footprint
in the data center.
With this agreement, StorageTek gains greater access to Sun's
6,000-strong sales professionals and opens up new joint marketing and
selling opportunities. StorageTek and Sun can now offer enterprise
customers that require bullet-proof back up and recovery capabilities
for mission-critical-data the opportunity to provide the ideal solution
to address the consolidation of enterprise and midrange computing
infrastructures.
