Majitek has called on its partner, Sun in Australia, to power MajikHouse, a live operational example of the ultimate Smart Home located in Melbourne. Majikhouse features over 2000 software and hardware objects integrated into one single distributed system environment using the power of JavaTM and JiniTM technologies and Maji, Majitek's new distributed systems framework.

"Part of Sun's core strategy is to collaborate with leading edge partners to accelerate network service deployment and reduce cost and complexity whilst increasing solutions availability and application support for Sun's server and Java software productivity suite," said Angus McDonald, Chief Technology Officer Sun Microsystems Australia. "Partners like Majitek are creating new business opportunities for Sun and Sun's customers by leveraging Sun's investment in its world class server products."

MajikHouse is powered by a number of Sun's latest entry level Sun FireTM V65K Linux server products running the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS) in conjunction with powerful Sun StorEdgeTM 3350 storage facilities for high end digital entertainment and security camera files.

Majitek is also utilizing a range of Sun RayTM thin client terminals and Java CardTM infrastructure to further demonstrate the combined power of Sun and Majitek's product offerings in the remote Smart Home and Office market.

Rob Cumming, Majitek's VP Operations, said, "We have been working closely with Sun Microsystems engineers both here in the United States and in Australia to develop our Industrial Java distributed systems framework. Now in the final stages of commercialization we have aligned our software solutions to run out of the box on Sun Server equipment so that it is easier for customers to expand the edge of their corporate network to encompass field systems such as building automation devices."

This Smart Home demonstrates how Majitek's Maji software framework and InterMajik developer tools provide a stable platform for rapid application development in the fluid conditions beyond the edge of traditional IT network environments.

Unlike most Smart Home projects, the MajikHouse is a real home with real occupants who live permanently in the environment utilizing the latest in distributed systems technology to enhance their lives. [...read more...]
