Sleepycat Software's Berkley DB Java Edition is based on a write-once,
append-only log architecture and is available under a dual-license
structure, according to Michael Singer at internetnews.com. The Java
Edition is capable of providing the same storage services as its
current Berkeley DB engine, however, the new design allows the product
to take full advantage of JavaTM technology's portability and
