What's on the Horizon for Sun Java Studio Creator, Enterprise JavaBeans and J2SE 5
Web Services Functionality to be Enhanced

The Sun JavaTM Studio Creator and Enterprise JavaBeansTM are slated for enhancements that will be available to customers later this year. According to Jeff Jackson, vice president of Java development tools at Sun, improvements to these technologies will primarily concentrate on better Web Services functionality.

Jackson spoke to Paul Krill, who noted in an InfoWorld article that Sun Java Studio Creator will be extended this fall with enrichments in its environment that will enable richer application development. Sun also wants to increase Enterprise JavaBeans support so that it is easier to build Web Services with the tool.

According to Krill's article, future releases of the JavaTM 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SETM) 5 will be fitted with technologies in the JavaTM 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EETM). Jackson cited the JAX-P parser for Web Services as an example of such a technology.

"You'll see Web Services technologies, as they become pervasive in everybody's computing model, that's how they get into the core," Jackson said. "A lot of (the improvements are) going to focus on the manageability, performance, configuration."

J2SE 5, also known as "Tiger," will be generally available this fall. Jackson told Krill to expect the follow-up release of J2SE 5 in 2005. [...read more...]
