The Sun JavaTM Studio Creator and Enterprise JavaBeansTM are slated
for enhancements that will be available to customers later this year.
According to Jeff Jackson, vice president of Java development tools at
Sun, improvements to these technologies will primarily concentrate on
better Web Services functionality.
Jackson spoke to Paul Krill, who noted in an InfoWorld article that Sun
Java Studio Creator will be extended this fall with enrichments in its
environment that will enable richer application development. Sun also
wants to increase Enterprise JavaBeans support so that it is easier to
build Web Services with the tool.
According to Krill's article, future releases of the JavaTM 2
Platform Standard Edition (J2SETM) 5 will be fitted with technologies
in the JavaTM 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EETM). Jackson cited the
JAX-P parser for Web Services as an example of such a technology.
"You'll see Web Services technologies, as they become pervasive in
everybody's computing model, that's how they get into the core,"
Jackson said. "A lot of (the improvements are) going to focus on the
manageability, performance, configuration."
J2SE 5, also known as "Tiger," will be generally available this fall.
Jackson told Krill to expect the follow-up release of J2SE 5 in 2005.
