Betfair.com Wagers on Sun to Extend its Exchange Betting Architecture Deploys Sun Solutions in Two UK Datacenters
Betfair.com, the world's largest betting exchange, has called on Sun and its iForceSM Partner Ultima Business Systems to provide a scalable system to handle its weekly turnover of 50 million pounds.
Betfair.com has installed Sun hardware and storage systems for both of
its UK processing centers, ensuring that operations can continue
running seamlessly from either location should one of the centers
become unavailable.
The new infrastructure also enables Betfair.com to foster the growth of
its online environments because a larger number of instant bets can be
made more quickly and with consistently reliable service.
"We chose Sun because we knew it was able to meet our demanding
time scales and deliver the service as promised," said Rorie Devine,
Betfair.com's director of infrastructure. "We are seeing constant
growth at Betfair.com, and with a busy sporting summer ahead it was
imperative that the technologies were in place to manage the needs of
our growing online community."
Gary Nugent, iForce Partner and Mid Market sales director at Sun, commented, "Technology is critical to the success of
Betfair.com. It required a highly scalable infrastructure that could
provide optimum customer security. With Sun technology in place,
Betfair.com can increase the number of transactions from its customers,
whilst offering them the quickest, most reliable technology platform
for online betting."
Betfair.com is the trading name of The Sporting Exchange Ltd, which was
founded in August 1999 by Andrew Black and Edward Wray in order to
commercialize proprietary betting technology that had been under
development the preceding year. The technology used by The
Sporting Exchange Ltd is proprietary and, as well as being
protected by copyright, is the subject of several patent applications
that have been filed with various jurisdictions.
