Quest Software Inc. has released a freeware edition of its premier JavaTM
development solution, Quest JProbe Profiler, a solution designed to
help developers quickly diagnose performance bottlenecks in Java technology code.
Quest JProbe Profiler can help developers diagnose memory leaks,
excessive garbage collection, threading issues and coverage
deficiencies in their JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition
(J2EETM) and JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SETM)
applications.
The freeware download is available from the Quest Software Web site,
where it is offered for Windows and Linux platforms and provides an
important subset of the functionality included in the for-sale edition.
Users of the freeware edition of JProbe Profiler will be able to easily
upgrade to the fully licensed and supported JProbe Suite when they need
greater diagnostic capabilities, technical support and maintenance.
META Group VP Thomas Murphy commented that "enabling distributed
development and coordinating between business, development and
operations requires a concerted focus by the Java community to enable
interoperability and to compete effectively with .NET." Murphy
suggested that a focus on improving both individual productivity and
team collaboration would ensure continued market growth for JavaTM
technology.
"We want to strengthen and expand the Java community by making our
state-of-the-art Java performance profiling tools available to anyone,
to encourage development of more professional-quality, high performing
Java applications," said Larry Humphries, vice president of development
solutions, Quest Software. "Quest Software has a long history of
providing freeware versions of its leading software products to create
communities and benefit IT in the enterprise. Quest Software is pleased
to offer JProbe Profiler to the entire Java development community."
Quest JProbe Suite is part of the Quest Application Performance
Management (APM) Suite for the J2EE platform, a comprehensive solution
that delivers end-to-end business views and integrated, domain-centric
tools for managing J2EE performance throughout the application
lifecycle.
