The Sun Secure Web Server Reference Architecture has been updated to include the Sun FireTM V20z server and the Sun JavaTM System Web Server 6.1.

The Sun Fire V20z server was classified as one of the industry's fastest secure Web servers by a SPECweb99_SSL benchmark running SuSE 8 Linux and Zeus 4.2r4 Web Server published on March 2, 2004.

The Reference Architecture identifies the equipment and software required for given traffic loads as well as configurations. The architecture documents the optimal balance between security settings, configurations and performance.

One of the companies that used the reference architecture is Ecquaria of Singapore. They provide Web Services software infrastructure and solutions. Their product line includes the Ecquaria Service Deployment Platform that provides ready-to-deploy B2B software.

"Participation in the Sun Reference Architecture program has allowed us to scientifically test and enhance the performance of our solution on the Sun platform," said Dr. Foon Wai Keong, president and CEO at Ecquaria. "Based on the Reference Architecture, we are more confident that our products can help our customers meet the increasingly complex demands of a service-oriented economy."

With the reference architecture, customers will receive pretested, integrated, secure Web serving solutions. It comes with deployment guides and a framework that can be easily customized for virtually any mid-market or enterprise-class Web serving solution. The sizing and implementation guides define the recommended hardware and software components to easily build repeatable, multi-tiered architectures.

"With Sun's Secure Web Server Reference Architecture, running on Sun's low-cost x86 systems, we can help our customers improve performance and decrease complexity because of greater Web security and rapid deployments on pretested and proven solutions," said Souheil Saliba, vice president of marketing and strategy at Sun.

The Sun Secure Web Server Reference Architecture comes with the secure, hardened SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS), which features the latest encryption technologies, large-scale identity management and role-based access control.

Software components of the Sun Secure Web Server Reference Architecture:

  • Solaris OS (Hardened)
