Mobile JavaTM Web Services technology will be extended to millions of
BlackBerry customers in the near future. This current project between
Sun and Research In Motion (RIM) is expected to enable the end-to-end
secure delivery of enterprise data via BlackBerry, a leading wireless
connectivity solution.
"There is an immediate need for today's companies to connect corporate
networks to mobile devices to increase productivity, value-chain
efficiency, sales and, most importantly, help to establish and
strengthen personalized customer relationships," said Alan Brenner,
vice president, Consumer and Mobile Systems Group, Sun. "Our alliance
with a leading mobile enterprise solution provider like RIM
demonstrates the potential of Java technology to help enterprises
massively improve productivity and customer loyalty with BlackBerry."
Based on the Sun JavaTM Enterprise System, Java technology for mobile
devices and Web Services technologies, this project's goal is to expand
mobile data services in networked applications and extend their reach
into enterprise markets.
"We are leveraging the power of Java Web Services and BlackBerry to
enable secure electronic business using wireless," said David Yach,
senior vice president of Software at Research In Motion.
The joint collaboration between Sun and RIM has already produced a
successful solution for eAgency, a sales force automation and customer
relationship management provider. With the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS) and Sun technology, eAgency along with Blackberry was
able to extend
its Web-based information exchange platform to wireless mobile users.
"Java for mobility platforms was designed for flexible wireless
applications," said Karen Jaffe, CTO, eAgency. "This made it easier for
us to concentrate on the application, which resulted in a greater depth
of utility for the end user."
