The recent release of the Sun FireTM V20z server compute node ATO options and base rack package for the Compute Grid rack system offers three new compute nodes, deeper rack, terminal server and all cabling. The available ATO options offer an increased flexibility in the rack system configuration.

The Sun Fire V20x server Compute Grid rack system comes with the new SunTM Rack 1000-38 that measures 1000 mm deep -- 100 mm deeper than the SunTM Rack 900-38.

The three new Sun Fire V20x server compute node ATO options are:

  • 2xAMD Opteron 242 processors, 4x512 MB of memory and 1x36 GB internal disk
  • 2xAMD Opteron 244 processors, 4x512 MB of memory and 1x36 GB internal disk
  • 2xAMD Opteron 248 processors, 4x1 GB of memory and 1x36 GB internal disk

Benefits include:

  • The latest x86 processor, delivering high performance for compute-intensive applications
  • Scalable architecture, from 2 to 128 nodes
  • Up to 32 rack-optimized compute servers in a rack
  • Cisco Catalyst 3750 Gigabit-Ethernet switches, enabling multiple switches to be managed as one for high interconnect speed
  • Ready-to-deploy building block for grid computing with factory integration and testing of hardware and software
  • Terminal server, providing compute node diagnostics and administration This integrated solution is ideal for electronic design automation, mechanical computer-aided engineering, petroleum, life sciences and any other markets requiring efficient, economical compute-intensive applications.
