EOL: 900 MHz-Based Sun Fire V1280 and Netra 1280 Server Configurations
Price Reduction on 1.2 GHz Configurations

The 900 MHz configurations of the Sun FireTM V1280 server and NetraTM 1280 server are being discontinued. The last order date is May 14, 2004.

Under the SunSM Upgrade Advantage Program, customers have the option to upgrade and trade-in their existing Sun Fire V1280 server or Netra 1280 server 900 MHz boards towards the purchase of new 1.2 GHz boards and receive an enhanced trade-in allowance. Customers may also receive an enhanced trade-in allowance for their existing UltraSPARCR II and competitive platforms. The following 1.2 GHz CPU/memory boards are available:

XCPU1280-442-1200 Sun Fire V1280/Netra 1280 CPU/memory board with four 1.2 GHz CPUs and 8 GB memory XCPU1280-482-1200 Sun Fire V1280/Netra 1280 CPU/memory board with four 1.2 GHz CPUs and 16 GB memory

XCPU1280-484-1200 Sun Fire V1280/Netra 1280 CPU/memory board with four 1.2 GHz CPUs and 32 GB memory

The prices of the 1.2 GHz configurations for these servers and CPU boards are being reduced.

The 900 MHz x-option CPU/memory board with 4 CPUs and 8 GB memory (X7057A) will be available for two years following this EOL announcement. The Sun Fire V1280/Netra 1280 servers support mixed speed CPUs. All CPUs will run at native speeds, but the system firmware must be upgraded to 5.13.0013 or later in order to run 1.2 GHz CPU/memory boards.

UltraSPARCR III and UltraSPARCR IV processor/memory boards can be mixed in a Sun Fire V1280 or a Sun FireTM E2900 server. To operate an UltraSPARC IV processor board in a Sun Fire V1280 or Sun Fire E2900 server, a minimum firmware level of 5.17 is required and SolarisTM 8 (2/04) Operating System (Solaris OS) or Solaris 9 OS when available. Installation of UltraSPARC IV processor board into a Netra 1280 server is not supported as this would void NEBs certification.

The following configuration of the Sun FireTM V240 server will be discontinued: 2x1 GHz, 2 GB memory configuration, 2x36 GB disks. This has been replaced by a dual 1.28 GHz UltraSPARCR IIIi processor standard configuration with Solaris 8/9 OS and Sun JavaTM Enterprise System software stack pre-loaded (N32-XWB2-9S-202AV2). The replacement also has: 4 x 512 MB DIMMS, 2 x 36 GB Drives, 4 x 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet, ALOM Remote Manager, three PCI Slots, n+1 redundant power. The dual 1.28 GHz CPU's increase performance up to 33 percent. Customers also receive the benefits of a new disc image, which includes an improved and updated software stack.

The last order date is: June 09, 2004.

The last ship date: September 09, 2004.

The last service availability date: September 09, 2009. [...read more...]
