Sun Fire 12K Server to Sun Fire 15K Server Upgrade Kit Promotion Receive a 35 Percent Discount Off the Upgrade Kit List Price March 15, 2004, Volume 73, Issue 3 Those installed base customers of the Sun FireTM 12K server who are interested in scaling to the capacity of the Sun FireTM 15K server can, for a limited time, receive a 35 percent discount off the upgrade kit list price when making the upgrade. The offer will expire on September 30, 2004. Those customers who are interested in the upgrade would scale their existing Sun Fire 12K server to the capacity of a Sun Fire 15K server, which has up to 106 UltraSPARCR III Cu 1.2 GHz processors, up to 18 fault-isolated Dynamic System Domains and more than one half a terabyte of memory in a single domain. This seamless upgrade path is designed to make Sun systems a smarter investment over the long term as customers choose to grow their data centers to meet increasing data growth and user volume requirements. An online upgrade is available that allows customers to avoid the potential pitfalls associated with capacity planning. The F12K to F15K Hardware Upgrade Kit includes the expander boards required to activate the back nine slots on the SunTM Fireplane interconnect. The expander boards are the key enabling technology, which allow Uniboards, MaxCPU boards, and hsPCI/hsPCI+ Assemblies to communicate with one another across the Fireplane interconnect. By adding the additional expander boards, the full capabilities of the Fireplane's 18x18 crossbar switch is enabled. The Sun Fire 12K and 15K servers' warranty features include:
