Wednesday (December 3) morning's speeches begin with a welcome address
by Elie Simon, Vice President, EMEA, and Robert Youngjohns, Executive
Vice President, Global Sales Operations. After the welcome, Sun CEO and
President, Scott McNealy, will discuss "The Network Computer: This
Year's Model."
McNealy will talk about how the innovative approach of network
computing (NC) is the right business and technology model for rapid
deployment and lowest total cost of ownership in today's enterprise
computing environment. Companies can pick and choose from Sun's
interoperable NC elements to build a system tailored to their
particular needs. McNealy will talk about the competitive advantage
available to customers who rely on Sun to speed time to service by
delivering "a complete, ready-to-drive automobile" through innovative
products and programs such as the Sun JavaTM Enterprise System, Sun
JavaTM Desktop System, Reference Architectures, Sun Customer Ready
Systems and the iForceSM Partner Program.
Then Mark Tolliver, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Strategy,
Chief Strategy Officer, will take the stage to discuss the latest trend in
enterprise IT, "scaling out," and how Sun is helping companies use this
approach to broaden the reach of their enterprises securely and
reliably while keeping IT budgets under control. Sun has stepped up
with new products and technologies to help companies take
advantage of the current dynamics in network computing and the
changes taking place in enterprise infrastructure. This keynote will be
an opportunity for Sun's customers to see these technologies in action,
and to hear from customers and partners at the leading edge of this
revolution in IT.
On Thursday (December 4) morning, Robert Youngjohns will deliver
perhaps the most compelling reply to date to the question: "Does IT
Matter?" -- and his reply is "of course it does, if you have the right
IT." This keynote will address Sun's Network Computing strategy and
how innovative offerings such as the "Infinite Mailbox" infrastructure
solution are solving real customer problems around the world.
Youngjohns will showcase Sun's success in Europe with real-world
customer examples. He will also talk about network computing
trends in Europe in general, and how Sun is positioned to help
customers make smart IT investments to take advantage of these trends
now and in the future.
Then Greg Papadopoulos, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology
Officer, will make a presentation titled "Innovation Matters".
Papadopoulos will assert that innovation in network computing is as
important now as it has ever been, perhaps more so. As companies drive
harder to wring every dollar out of their IT investments, they look to
IT vendors like Sun, with the right technology today, and a vision that
will help them react to the next tectonic shift in network computing.
Papadopoulos will talk about how Sun is preparing for the next wave
with an ongoing $2B US R&D investment in products and technologies,
such as throughput computing, that will deliver quantum performance
gains over current offerings.
After the morning keynotes, the Pavilion opens at lunch time and
breakout sessions begin. Wednesday evening features a drinks reception
in the Pavilion. On Thursday afternoon, after a presentation on
European IT Thought Leadership, McNealy will make some closing
remarks.
