Sun will try to capitalize on the momentum of JavaTM technology adoption in Greater China by launching a region-wide alliance on Java technology. The new alliance will follow the launch of Sun's JavaSM Center of Excellence (JCOE) program earlier this year with a new alliance aimed at offering the value and skills of Java technology programming and architecting to Sun customers throughout China.

Scott McNealy, Sun's president and CEO, announced the new alliance on a recent trip to Shanghai, where he spoke at an inauguration ceremony that included some of the first members of the new alliance, such as Hong Kong partners Global Network Solutions Asia Limited, Automated Systems (Hong Kong) Limited and Excel Technology International (Hong Kong) Limited; Taiwan partners Cradle Technology, Stark Technology, Everlite Technology and China partners Modern Devices, BJ Teamsun, UFSoft, NEUSoft and Digital China.

"Java (technology) is a tremendous platform that can reduce overall application development costs for internal and external projects. Fundamentally, Java technology can improve the quality of the application development processes, shorten application development schedules and dramatically improve time-to-market," said Xie Yun, vice president of Digital China Ltd at the inauguration ceremony.

He continued, "As a founding member of the Greater China Alliance on Java technology, our goal is to spread that message so that companies and the region as a whole can reap the productivity and economic benefits that Java can make possible."

Sun hopes to take advantage of China's burgeoning software industry and stimulate growth in a marketplace that analysts predict could soon rival the region's current software giant, India. Sun plans to deliver tools and support that will empower Java technology developers, including recent support for the simplified Chinese language in both the NetBeansTM 3.5.1 software release and in the SunTM ONE Studio 5, Standard Edition product (formerly known as ForteTM for JavaTM).

"Java's key strengths include helping organizations create reusable enterprise technology assets, simplifying operational support and enabling businesses to follow the same process and standards company-wide," said Walter Fang, chief technical officer of Neusoft Group Ltd. "These are compelling benefits that can transform the IT infrastructure of companies and countries." [...read more...]
