Saving Investments in Designs with Model-driven Architecture Solutions Sun and ISVs Create MDA Solutions
A model-driven architecture (MDA) creates re-usable models, saving
companies from having to rewrite code as their environments change. Sun
and a group of independent software vendors (ISVs) are working together
to create solutions that reduce cost and complexity.
The ISVs that Sun is working with and who showcased their solutions at
the recent Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2003 include Certive, Clickmarks,
iSpheres, Kabira Technologies, M7 Networks, MAKE Technologies,
ProactiveNet, Relicore and Transoft.
John Crupi, Sun Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect of Sun
Software Services, spoke at the symposium about recent developments in
MDA. The benefits of MDA include how it helps an organization protect
their investments in software by creating re-usable models. As
building a network infrastructure becomes more complex, solutions that
enable companies to re-use MDA reduce cost and complexity.
ISVs working with Sun to produce MDA solutions noted the benefits:
The vice president of marketing at Kabira Technologies, Grover Righter,
said, "Model driven development is the native language for Kabira
solutions on the Sun platform. Architects can use models to design and
then compile high-speed, real-time enterprise applications that combine
upper layers from the JavaTM Enterprise System with Kabira's
ultra-fast lower-layer software. The resulting solutions enable
customers to use best-in-class solutions from Sun and connect them
directly to global networks for high-volume business transactions."
The CEO of M7, Mansour Safai, said, "The M7 Application Assembly Suite
uses a model-driven persistence engine that makes it easy to access
data from any SQL database without requiring any custom coding. By
using a model-driven architecture, M7 saves our customers time and
money in developing custom Web applications."
David Dawson, vice president of Marketing for iSpheres Corp. said,
"Model driven development is a key benefit of iSpheres Halo 4.
Corporate developers can use models built by Halo 4's prototyping tools
to map their high-level analysis models to Halo's Event Server
platform. Developers can then rapidly deploy these applications to Sun
solutions."
