Emlyn Pagden's Sun BluePrints OnLine article, "The IT Utility Model,
Part I," defines both utility computing (a method for consuming the
resources of a computer based on its utilization rather than its ownership)
and utility pricing (a method of billing customers for computer
resources they have consumed).
Dell has left the 8-way server market segment, arguing that
horizontally scaled 2- and 4-way servers will meet the needs of that
market just as well. Souheil Saliba, Vice President of Volume Server
Product Marketing at Sun questions that assertion and presents Sun's
case to the enterprise server customer.
