Sun and Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) have extended their agreements for two
years, and will continue collaborating on hardware, software and services to
provide improved integration and ease of management in complex
environments. They will collaborate on marketing, sales support,
services and joint customer support centers.
At the recent Hot Chips conference, Sun released the details of its new 64-bit processor designed for
blade and thin rack-mount Web and Application servers. The Gemini chip
is Sun's first generation CMT (Chip Multi-threading)
UltraSPARC processor and is capable of running dual threads.
Sun will participate in the new Healthcare Users Group Alliance Program
recently formed by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems
Society (HIMSS). Sun has created Sun Solutions for Healthcare:
Information, Networking, Education (SunSHINE). SunSHINE will be lead by
volunteers and work under the guidance of the HIMSS board. It will
operate similarly to a HIMSS special interest group (SIG).
Sun announced significantly expanded hardware support for the
Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) (x86 Platform Edition),
adding 100 new third-party systems and 100 new components to its
Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Sun also introduced a hardware
certification test suite (HCTS) and promotion program.
Sun and Check Point Software Technologies have integrated a secure
solution to protect the privacy of business communications over the
Internet and secure critical network resources against unauthorized
access: The Sun VPN Firewall Appliance -- "Secured by Check Point" on
the Sun Fire V60x server. There will be a launch for the appliance
in Singapore on September 17, 2003.
By deploying Oracle's E-business Suite on Solaris Operating System
(Solaris OS) (SPARC Platform Edition), Oracle Corporation Singapore and Sun
Microsystems Singapore are gaining customers in the mid-market

Raytheon Company and other network systems experts plan to work with
the U.S. Air Force's MILSATCOM Joint Program Office (MJPO) to expand

pre-configured VoIP IP Centrex telephony solution to the Australian and
