Sun Microsystems Australia and Musica Viva Australia were recently awarded the "Outstanding Partnership of the Year Award" and "Bytecraft Commitment Award" by the Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF). The awards acknowledged the creative arts programs and business results achieved by Sun and Musica Viva during their 12-year partnership. The awards were presented by Prime Minister John Howard on behalf of the AbaF.

"Sun, like Musica Viva, believes in innovation and connecting people. Musica Viva does it through music, Sun does it using technology," said Jim Hassell, Managing Director, Sun Microsystems Australia."In partnership, we can do so much more for our customers and audiences by sharing ideas and leveraging our respective skills."

The judges of the award stated the Sun and Musica Viva relationship was characterized by passion, rigorous analysis and shared creative strategies. Sun first became a sponsor of Musica Viva in 1991, becoming principal sponsor in 1998. Since then it has renewed the contract twice and the current contract extends until 2007.

The pair have undertaken a variety of programs over their history together, from exclusive performances for Sun's customers and partners to using music to build employee motivation programs. With Sun as a Principal Sponsor, Musica Viva has increased its national audience to more than 524,433 and hosted over 2,700 concerts in Australia and overseas. "This sponsorship goes beyond a simple funding arrangement. It is about working together to help achieve each organization's objectives," said Mary Jo Capps, general manager, Musica Viva Australia. "Sun's business is based on a true passion and curiosity about the world around us, mirroring precisely what we seek through our work in music, which means we can work together for better outcomes for all stakeholders."

"You can't sustain this type of partnership without achieving some solid business goals along the way," said Loraine Golden, Marketing Director, Sun Microsystems Australia. "It's easy to pay lip service to aligned objectives and marketing synergies, but without them, the best intentions are not enough to maintain a long-term relationship."

"Whether it be building relationships with our customers, partners or employees, Musica Viva continually rises to the challenge with new ideas each year," Loraine Golden said. "I would like to thank Musica Viva for their hard work. And the Australian Business Arts Foundation must also be congratulated for rewarding organizations that make a real difference in the community." [...read more...]
