Sun and Oracle Begin a Joint Sales Training and Telemarketing Campaign
Collaboration Aims to Lower Collaborative Messaging Costs

Sun and Oracle are engaged in a joint sales training and telemarketing campaign to inform customers of the benefits of running Oracle solutions on Sun servers, specifically the newly released Oracle Collaboration Suite, release 2. Together Sun and Oracle want to reduce costs and give customers an improved collaboration platform.

Using the Oracle solution on Sun gives customers an integrated suite of applications including a calendar, email, voice mail, search and Web conferencing capabilities, which can be utilized through a client's desktop, Web browser, PDA, telephone or wireless device. The Oracle Collaboration Suite was developed on the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS) (SPARCR Platform Edition). This configuration delivers better investment protection and higher levels of security and scalability to customers.

"Collaboration applications are mission critical for enterprises today," stated Steve Levine, vice president, Oracle Collaboration Suite Marketing. "Together, Oracle and Sun have armed their sales force with the tools needed to provide customers with a cost-effective, scalable and reliable collaboration platform."

Some of the other benefits of the Sun and Oracle development for collaboration include:

  • The Sun sizing tool offers customers sizing at no cost through Sun Specialists who determine the appropriate hardware requirements for Oracle software before a purchase is made.

  • Reduction in scheduled and unscheduled downtime, with simplified administration.

  • Running Oracle Collaboration Suite Release 2 on Sun servers requires fewer system administrators.

  • Reduction in TCO, based on the costs associated with software licensing, system administrators and hardware. Sun offers several size configurations for maximum scalability -- from 2 to 64 CPUs -- which all support the Solaris OS.

  • Single platform for file management, eliminating redundant servers and duplicate files.

  • The built in security and reliability benefits from both the Oracle Collaboration Suite and Solaris OS.

"Oracle Collaboration Suite on Sun systems provides a solution that helps solve major issues for customers using enterprise messaging applications, especially cost, security, and complexity," said Stuart Wells, senior vice president, market development, Sun. "At the same time, the interoperability and availability of StarOfficeTM (software) as an alternative office productivity suite allows customers to cut their tether to Microsoft's pricing schemes and frequent security breaches."
