OASIS Members Support New Provisioning Identity Management Solution for Web Services
Service Provisioning Markup Language Specification (SPML) v1.0

OASIS will demonstrate the Service Provisioning Markup Language Specification (SPML) v1.0 at the Catalyst Conference. SPML is an XML-based framework for exchanging and administering user access rights and resource information across heterogeneous environments. Its interoperability will be demonstrated to illustrate its importance as a crucial security layer in the Web Services stack.

Secure Student Record Management Solution

Sun and The Administrative Assistants Ltd. (AAL) provide schools with a centrally managed and secure method of access for student records. The joint project recently added Seattle Public Schools and reached the one-million-mark, hosting more than 1.7 million students on their Web-based student information systems (eSIS) to manage student records.

Sun's No-cost StarOffice Software Licensing Program Signs New Schools
Over One Million Agreements

Sun has added several new U.S. K-12 schools and school districts to its no-cost StarOffice software licensing program. In 2003, Sun signed on more than 800 new schools and school districts, bringing the total of students, faculty and staff benefiting from the StarOffice agreements to more than one million. Sun has also developed the StarOffice Leadership Academy specifically for the primary- and secondary-school market and the Sun Academic Initiative (SAI).

Announcing the Solaris 8 HW 5/03 Operating System
Adds Support for Sun Fire B100s Blade Server, the Sun Fire V210 Server and Sun Fire V240 Server

Sun has introduced the Solaris 8 HW 5/03 Operating System (Solaris OS) for the Sun Fire B100s blade server, the Sun Fire V210 server and Sun Fire V240 server, as well as the future UltraSPARC IIIi based workstation. This platform specific release builds on the Solaris 8 2/02 OS by adding support to the above systems.

    libumem: The User Space Slab Allocator
    Finding and Fixing Memory Management Bugs

    The Solaris 9 Operating System (Solaris OS), Update 3, contains a user space slab allocator, libumem, which has a debugging infrastructure. It can be used to find and fix memory management bugs efficiently within existing code. Robert Benson introduces the libumem library, the advantages of using the slab allocator for application memory management, the debugging infrastructure and some examples using the libumem library and the Solaris OS Modular Debugger (MDB) to illustrate the ease of finding memory management bugs.
