Sun Developer Day Conferences in Surrey and Dublin are free and will cover Web Services, JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EETM), JavaTM 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2METM), the SunTM Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) and the SolarisTM 9 Operating System (Solaris OS).

The keynote will be by Reginald Hutcherson, Technology Evangelist on Web Services. Sang Shin will cover the J2EE platform 1.4 and the Sun ONE platform; Simon Ritter will talk about the J2ME platform. There will be a Q&A session.

Hutcherson's keynote will look at some of the challenges and motivations for the current infrastructure for Web Services and how Sun is uniquely positioned with technology and services to provide industry leadership and direction.

Sang Shin will describe the J2EE platform architecture and the core technologies such as Enterprise JavaBeansTM (EJBTM) technology, Servlets, JavaServer PagesTM technology, JavaTM Message Service (JMS) and J2EETM Connector Architecture technology. In his Sun ONE platform talk, Shin will focus on topics pertaining to the Solaris OS, SunTM ONE Portal Server, SunTM ONE Directory Server, Sun ONE Identity Server, SunTM ONE Web Server and Sun ONETM Application Server and SunTM ONE Integration Server (all formerly iPlanetTM products).

This session will describe various new features that will be introduced in J2EE 1.4 platform, especially in the area of Web Services, which include Enterprise Web Services, JavaTM API for XML-based RPC (JAX-RPC), JavaTM API for XML Registries (JAXR), EJB 2.1 technology, Servlet 2.4, and JavaTM API for XML Messaging (JAXM).

Ritter will talk about J2ME platform development and provide a detailed overview of the J2ME CLDC 1.0 and J2ME MIDP 1.0 APIs and related technologies, as well as a brief introduction of J2ME CDC and Profiles based on CDC and MIDP 2.0.
