The first of two High Performance Computing Consortium (SHPCC) events
will be held June 21-23 in Heidelberg, Germany. A second SHPCC is
scheduled for November 14-16 in Phoenix, AZ, just prior to the 2003
Supercomputer Conference.
The SHPCC is an independent, volunteer-organized, worldwide group of
organizations that employ Sun computer systems in high-performance,
technical computing and visualization settings. Hoping to foster the
advancement of high-performance and technical computing, Sun has
expanded its High Performance and Technical Computing (HPTC) business
unit to encompass the entire corporation and drive HPTC customer
requirements to a broader range of developments.
"Sun's goal is to help our HPTC customers and partners advance science.
We do this by offering best of breed solutions built upon solid
platforms and standards," said Shahin Khan, vice president of High
Performance and Technical Computing, Sun Microsystems. "From the Sun
FireTM V880z visualization server, which I consider the hottest graphics
system on the market today, to SunTM HPC Storage Area Network
technologies and its SunTM ONE Grid Engine software, Sun has the broadest
set of offerings for the HPTC market. In addition, other foundation
technologies such as Project JXTA or chip multithreading promise to
provide not just high performance but also high productivity to Sun
customers."
"The SHPCC is a true testament of Sun's continued commitment to the
scientific, engineering and technical computing markets," said Kim
Jones, vice president, Global Education and Research, Sun Microsystems.
"An increasing number of researchers are discovering the advantages of
Sun's architecture and partner relationships, and the SHPCC is a forum
that allows professionals to capitalize and learn about the work being
done in the field of high performance computing."
The speakers at the June SHPCC meeting will include Shahin Kahn, Sun VP
of HPTC; Wolfgang Gentzch, Sun Director of grid computing; Marc
Tremblay, chief architect, Sun Processor Product group; and Jarek
Nabrzyski, director, Poznan Supercomputer Center, along with several
industry visionaries.
