Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter
Flexible, Policy-Based Spam Filter for Enterprises

Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter enables enterprises to define and block spam and other unwanted messages according to their specific preferences and needs. This filter is part of Sendmail Mailstream Manager. In addition to blocking spam, enterprises can use the Filter's rule sets and full-text analysis to take a policy-based approach to email content management.

The Advanced Anti-Spam Filter analyzes the entire message, including headers, subject line, body text and 200 attachment types. The filter can be customized to create custom rules based for individuals instead of just one policy for the company because the identifying characteristics of legitimate email are different from enterprise to enterprise, and even between different job functions and users.

It has a linguistic full-text analysis engine that can filter out unwanted content such as offensive language, sexually explicit content and hate mail. Companies can also append watermarks or legal disclaimers and prevent offensive content from being circulated around the enterprise. The Filter also offers real-time alerts for individual policy violations, comprehensive Web reporting and wizards to simplify policy-setting and customization.

Content management components of the filter include:

  • Sendmail Flow Control -- Provides a system-level defense to defeat address harvesting and Denial of Service attacks by regulating the flow of messages or connections to email servers

  • Sendmail Switch -- A message transfer agent that offers native spam-blocking features, including blacklisting, ORBs/RBLs, quarantining and prevention of open relays

  • Sendmail Log Management Service -- Gives systems administrators a comprehensive view of the email infrastructure to pinpoint spam attacks and abuse

"Everyone has a different definition of spam. To complicate this further, these definitions evolve over time as spammers employ new tricks and users' requirements change," said Greg Olson, chairman and co-founder of Sendmail Inc. "Even the most sophisticated anti-spam solutions often don't take this into account. Because our filter is policy-based and can be fully integrated into the email infrastructure, it can evolve along with our customers' needs to help them beat spam in the long-term."

The Sendmail Advanced Anti-Spam Filter is available now on the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS) and Linux.
