SunRAMP is a recently completed, global consolidation project
undertaken by Sun. The project resulted in the consolidation of more
than 100 servers dispersed across 55 countries and 60 Oracle Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) applications down to a single server running a
single instance of Oracle applications.
"The SunRAMP project is living proof that you can reduce IT expenses
without sacrificing superior customer service. Our internal Information
Technology Group smoothly and seamlessly consolidated servers and
legacy ERP applications around the world and upgraded our Oracle ERP
environment without ever impacting Sun's ability to support customers.
We get consolidation on a global level and we know what customers need
because we've been through it ourselves. Working with Oracle, we can
share these best practices with the legions of businesses out there
that want to control the costs of doing business and better service
their customers," said William Vass, VP, Corporate Software Services,
Information Technology, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Given the 2001 Gartner Data Center Conference Survey finding that
upwards of 69 percent of all mid-market to high-end companies are
considering consolidation, the success of SunRAMP puts Sun and Oracle
in the forefront of the ERP consolidation effort and lends credibility
to their solutions.
With SunRAMP, several benefits accrue to Sun Microsystems, including:
- Savings of several millions of dollars in data center and application
support and development costs
- Global order management process alignment
- Alignment of order entry and accounts receivable, data structures and
systems
According to Conway Snyder, Oracle Senior Director, RISC Platform
Partners, "Consolidation projects not only slash your overall IT costs
as Oracle and now Sun have demonstrated, they also make doing business
on a global scale much easier. Consolidation can also open up a whole
new world of business intelligence that is otherwise unavailable if
critical data remains fragmented in separate databases. SunRAMP
exemplifies what IT consolidation with Sun and Oracle can do for your
business."
