To reduce the barriers to implementing new technologies, Sun Microsystems Australia will cut prices across its midrange and high-end Sun FireTM servers. Every Australian customer will also receive complementary training up to the value of one percent of the purchase price on all hardware. There will be around a 3.7 percent reduction across the board on all Sun products including hardware, software and services.

"Sun has experienced massive operational efficiencies and reduced our product cost base in the last 18 months," said Jim Hassell, Managing Director, Sun Microsystems Australia. "In Australia, not only can we pass on these savings faster than our competitors, but customers also benefit from shifts in the exchange rate," he said.

The servers that are included in the price cuts are Sun FireTM 15K servers, Sun FireTM 12K servers, Sun FireTM 6800 servers, Sun FireTM 4800 servers and Sun FireTM 3800 servers.

The new pricing also applies to the new Sun FireTM V1280 server launched at the Sun event February 10 (a rack-optimized, 12-way server for enterprise network computing at entry-level pricing; additional details are covered in the Server section and News sections of this issue of the news magazine).

Commenting on relevance to the channel, Paul O'Connor, Director Partner Sales, Sun Microsystems Australia said, "The new products combined with price reductions will give our partners greater opportunities to capture business. These announcements reinforce Sun's position as the best platform for building and deploying solutions," he said.

The new Australian pricing will become effective February 11th, 2003. [...read more...]
