Sun has been awarded CoreNet's prestigious Global Innovator's Award at
the 2002 CoreNet Global Summit in San Diego, CA. Sun's entry,
"iWork...Your Office Anywhere," won in the category for Innovation in
Corporate Real Estate and Workplace Management. Each year CoreNet
Global (Corporate Real Estate Network) recognizes innovative practices
and excellence in the strategic management of corporate real estate.
The award has special significance for Bill Agnello, retiring senior
vice president of Workplace Resources, who said, "We are proud that
CoreNet chose to honor iWork. It's particularly noteworthy that Sun is
recognized for how we've integrated our own technology and tools such
as Sun RayTM appliances and Web Services to build a total solution. After many years
of development, we believe that iWork has evolved into a truly
innovative program that supports the dynamic way our employees now
work. As Sun continues to grow as a global competitor, iWork will
enable our employees to effectively work Anywhere, Anytime on Any
Device."
The six-month competition for the award began in May 2002 with a
rigorous selection process. In August, Sun and the other finalists
presented entries at the Global Innovator's Award Phase II event which
was hosted by Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. Eric
Richert, vice president iWork Solutions Group (iSG), and Ann
Bamesberger, director, iSG, presented for Sun.
Other finalists who competed for awards in four categories were CIGNA
Corporation, Fidelity Investments, Honeywell, U.S. General Services
Administration, Grubb & Ellis, Johnson Controls, Miller Hughes
Associates, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Oakland County, Mich.,
and the U.S. Army.
"It is truly an honor that CoreNet has recognized iWork for its
innovation," said Richert. "We've made a lot of progress with iWork and
many challenges lie ahead. As we continue to expand iWork, iSG remains
determined to forge an increasingly strong partnership with Workplace
Resources, HR and IT. We are committed to 'making the net work' for
Sun's employees and businesses, to provide them with ultimate choice
and flexibility in their work environments."
This marks the second time Sun has been honored with a Global
Innovators Award. Bob Cook, strategic planning manager in Workplace
Resources' Strategy & Continuity Group, along with the former Advance
Planning Group and WR IT, received an award at the Inaugural Summit
held in 2000. Together, Bob and his team were recognized for developing
the innovative Metro Forum Program, a Web-based collaborative planning
tool.
Cook comments, "CoreNet is the leading professional organization for
the corporate real estate industry. The awards allow us to showcase Sun
as an innovator and that helps us keep a high profile. This helps us
in many ways, like attracting talent and having vendors and consultants
want to work for us."
