The Asigra Televaulting solution from Sun and Asigra combines Sun StorEdgeTM Complete Storage Solutions with Asigra's Televaulting software to make an cost-effective disaster recovery solution.

The solution has a utility style options that allows customers to pay for data protection services monthly, on an all-inclusive gigabyte or terabyte per dollar basis. With this solution, geographically dispersed data protection can be deployed without building a secondary site.

"Asigra Televaulting allows service providers to help customers reduce the cost of doing off-site backups by as much as 50 percent, while strategically transitioning their business to a recurring services-oriented model from one currently focused on product margins," explains Eran Farajun, vice president of Business Development for Asigra.

The solution is automated and can rapidly restore files to client "data islands" and individual client nodes. It also provides archiving capability for the long term. It can be easily scaled to multiple centers and thousands of customers as demand dictates. It can be used to manage off-site backup service to medium and large distributed environments.

"The solution enables IT organizations to transform their storage infrastructure from a cost-center to a profit-center very quickly, while greatly simplifying the administration of distributed data backup and restore processes," explains Farajun.

The Asigra Televaulting solution consists of three core components: a Sun technology infrastructure, Asigra's feature-rich and noninvasive software layer, and tools designed by Asigra to help service providers throughout the delivery cycle.

The Sun technology infrastructure has the SunTM SAM-FS 4.0 data management software, and the Sun StorEdgeTM Performance Suite software featuring the Sun StorEdgeTM QFS 4.0 file system software. SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) hosts the remote backup and recovery services.

An example of an Asigra Televaulting solution might include satellite on the customer's site, a platform with the Solaris OE on it and direct storage, data on a disk subsystem, and prescheduled media for archiving.

Other features of the Asigra's Televaulting software are service level agreement monitoring and management, storage resource management tools, a storage billing system, and budget allocation. Asigra also provides a suite of tools called Value Beyond Software (VBS) with best practices and business processes. [...read more...]
