Quick Start Service for Network Identity
Gives Customers a Demo of Open Network Identity Infrastructure

The Sun Professional ServicesSM program (SunPSSM) offers a suite of network identity services to help customers architect, implement and manage a complete network identity infrastructure. These services comprise the "services" portion of the Network Identity Enterprise and Internet Editions bundles -- combinations of hardware, software and services. The Quick Start Service for Network Identity is one of three network-identity packaged services; the other two services are Architecture Workshop for Network Identity (released this quarter) and Architecture Roadmap for Network Identity (under development).

The Quick Start for Network Identity Service is specifically designed to help the customer to demonstrate a simple-use case scenario of an open, end-to-end network identity infrastructure in a lab-style environment.

Altogether, these network-identity services are positioned as Sun Professional Services' approach in helping customers through the "Road to Federated Identity."

Quick Start Service for Network Identity

The Quick Start Service for Network Identity will be available as a fixed-price package by the middle of the second quarter, 2003. The Quick Start Service for Network Identity is designed to help customers implement a simple- use case scenario with the Enterprise and Internet Editions based on SunTM Open Network Environment (Sun ONE) products. Experienced SunPS architects will lead and mentor the customer development team through the integration and configuration of Sun ONE products identified in the Enterprise/Internet Editions. The customer's business and technical requirements will be reviewed and analyzed. A simple-use case scenario will be implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed network-identity solution.

The target customers are found in all industries, but Sun will focus primarily on financial services, health care, telecommunications service providers, manufacturing, business services, retail and government.

The Quick Start Service for Network Identity is ideal for customers who:

  • Have limited in-house identity management expertise

  • Require additional resources to assess their security posture or understand the security implications of network identity

  • Want identity alternatives other than Microsoft Passport

  • Are deploying Web Services

  • Listed on the TAP account list From a market value perspective, the advantages of the Quick Start service for Network Identity are that it:

  • Helps customers develop a strategy for network identity and identify the issues associated with open systems data, application and architecture integration.

  • Helps customers understand their identity management options while meeting business needs.

  • Delivers a consistent delivery methodology to customers on identity management and security that have been established for Sun environments to mitigate the risks associated with open system architectures.

  • Transfers identity management, Sun ONE and security knowledge from Sun consultants to the customer's IT staff.

  • Demonstrates the viability of a network-identity solution based on the Sun ONE Internet and Enterprise Solutions for Network Identity.

SunPS provides the technical expertise in exploring the customer's identity management issues, concerns and potential solutions. Sun's unique approach based on the principles of the SunToneSM Architecture Methodology stress the importance of service-level requirements such as manageability, scalability, performance, availability and security as architectural concerns as well as the recognition and mitigation of risk.
