M1 Chooses Sun, Mobilitec for Its Singapore Market
Sun Fire Servers, Solaris OE and mPower Provide Solutions

M1, a mobile operator in Singapore, has selected Sun Microsystems and Mobilitec to deliver a complete, scalable and robust solution enabling M1 to rapidly deploy new wireless content and services.

With the launch of M1's wireless JavaTM technology services, its customers can use any Java technology-enabled mobile phone to perform over-the-air downloading of rich Java programming language-based contents and applications. In addition, M1's customers, both prepaid and post-paid, can opt for a variety of payment schemes.

"With Java, we bring to our customers a new suite of services of a new dimension. These services are highly interactive, colorful, graphic-rich and have sound playback," said Steven Chan, M1's director of Internet Services and Product Development. "Users can expect a totally new experience with Java Services. Many phones that will be commercially available in the future will be Java-enabled with color display. This will eventually enable our customers to experience a whole new world of wireless services."

Sun's SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) on Sun FireTM servers met M1's stringent requirement for a highly reliable and secure system that can manage the expected traffic volume for these services and scale vertically as well as horizontally.

Sun Professional ServicesSM program has been selected as the system integrator to design and implement M1's wireless infrastructure. With the development time of three months, Sun Professional Services has helped M1 to deploy a platform for end-to-end wireless Java service delivery.

Mobilitec's mPower offers M1 an integrated solution to efficiently manage all aspects of Java technology service deployment, including content management, service customization, dynamic creation of billing models and subscription capabilities. mPower enables subscribers to self-deploy services as they want, thus increasing revenues and reducing the cost of deployment. Personalized menus, payment variety and even the ability of a subscriber to forward an application to a friend, are all powerful marketing tools for increasing market share.

mPower has been the preferred choice by leading carriers around the world. Hong Kong CSL has been first in the world to launch a live downloaded service based on mPower. M1 licensing mPower, reinforces Mobilitec's leadership in the Asia Pacific market as in the rest of the world. [...read more...]
