Sun's Acquisition of Pirus Networks Completed
New Technology Underscores Sun's N1 Vision

Sun has completed the acquisition of Pirus Networks Inc., a developer of multi-protocol, multi-vendor intelligent storage platforms for distributed open-systems environments. This acquisition will help Sun deliver critical data services components of the N1 architecture and strategy. It also demonstrates Sun's leadership in delivering complete storage solutions and technologies that help customers simplify their storage networks while boosting system availability and lowering the overall cost of storage ownership. Pirus Networks has become a part of Sun's Network Storage organization, which reports to Mark Canepa, executive vice president. "We are thrilled to be integrating the Pirus team and technologies into our organization and leading storage offerings," said Canepa, "and we are pleased that both organizations moved so quickly to close this acquisition. Virtualization is a critical component of Sun's N1 strategy. This new technology and team will help us deliver on N1 by helping customers create a unified, easy-to-manage storage infrastructure."

The acquisition of Pirus Networks helps further Sun's strategy to develop advanced storage solutions that provide storage virtualization, provisioning, and management services.

Sun is a leader in the UNIXR and open-systems storage market. Sun StorEdgeTM Complete Storage Solutions are optimized for the SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and tailored to Sun's server platform, while supporting heterogeneous environments. Sun is the number one worldwide UNIX storage supplier, number one external UNIX systems vendor in systems shipped, number one storage provider in host-attached external storage, and received the number one storage ranking in the VARBusiness Report Card.
