Sun and security software vendor, Check Point Software Technologies, came up with a way for you to keep your business secure with maximum protection and minimum problems. The SunTM LX50 server VPN/Firewall appliance -- "Secured by Check Point" software is inexpensive and easy to manage. The appliance comes with Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 software preinstalled and an intuitive graphical user interface for hardware configuration.

It is well suited for remote offices, corporate offices and Internet service providers that need advanced Internet security without the work of developing and deploying a customized solution. The appliance runs a hardened version of the Linux operating system, so your system administrators don't have to spend their time shutting off the nonessential capabilities of a full-fledged operating environment to seal the doors against intrusion.

The appliance is designed to provide key security capabilities such as:

  • Connect remote offices to corporate data securely through a virtual private network (VPN)

  • Protect data passing over wired and wireless networks and through the firewall to remote clients of any type

  • Manage thousands of users with a consistent security policy using intuitive tools

  • Accelerate the time needed to authenticate users, manage certificates, and encrypt data with a performance-optimized solution: the appliance supports peak firewall throughput of 2 Gb/sec and VPN performance of up to 640 Mb/sec with AES-128 encryption

Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 met the rigorous criteria for the SunToneSM certification program, and the appliance has been certified by Open Platform for Security (OPSEC).

This appliance offers Sun customers a second option for deploying a simplified security solution at the edge of their networks. Sun selected low-cost components, Linux and the Intel Pentium III processor, for the Sun LX50 server VPN/Firewall appliance -- "Secured by Check Point" software.

Check Point software on Sun FireTM servers running the SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) is an optimum security solution for organizations that:

  • Have an investment in the Solaris OE as their hosting environment

  • Have security expertise in-house to create, deploy, test and manage a customized security solution

  • Require a Solaris OE software-class operating environment or NEBS (Network Equipment Building Systems) compliance

  • Need greater flexibility with their OS or ability to customize the operating environment themselves

Check Point is one of five security companies that joined Sun's iForceSM Integrated Security Solution, an initiative to combine the industry's leading security products and create preintegrated solutions for businesses that need maximum-strength security with minimal investment of precious system administration resources. The appliance is compatible with this solution and provides an additional option for deploying the Check Point application.

One company using the appliance stated they chose it because they have a high standard to meet. "We evaluated a number of appliances from different vendors: Cisco, Netscreen, and Sun," said Craig Wood, DeLorme IT systems engineer. "We found our best option was the new appliance from Check Point and Sun. This appliance, plus excellent support services from GE Access, will yield a stable and reliable VPN/firewall to carry DeLorme into the future." [...read more...]
