General Electric has deployed end-to-end technology from Sun to lower operating costs while securely delivering personalized content to more than 250,000 employees, contractors and consultants worldwide. The InsideGE.com employee portal enables users to customize their portals to deliver the most important and relevant information to them.

IT administration does not require the skill set or time previously required to maintain the previously silo'd Websites, and the Web team is now centralized. Moreover, access is now role-based rather than URL-based, so business units enjoy tremendous flexibility to create their own portal channels or "portlets."

These systems are geographically dispersed to provide high availability and quick response.
