Sun and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) have formed a global alliance to define and implement new technology and business solutions for CSC's global outsourcing clients, including jointly delivered support services, based on Sun's UNIXR workstations, midrange and enterprise servers and software.

"Having Sun as one of our preferred providers helps us provide complete, comprehensive and innovative technical solutions at competitive prices," said Russ Owen, president of CSC's Global Infrastructure Services Group. "The current competitive pressures, particularly in IT outsourcing, require that we have strong, mutually rewarding relationships with our hardware and software providers. By strengthening and expanding our relationship with Sun, we have enhanced CSC's market position as we compete for new clients worldwide."

As the information technology (IT) outsourcing market has matured, the cost of new technology and the need to have levels of measurable returns for IT capital expenditures have become increasingly critical driving factors for global enterprises and government agencies.

"For more than a decade, Sun and CSC have built a strong worldwide strategic relationship, establishing an ever-growing presence in the areas of e-business solutions and legacy systems to support a joint presence in the worldwide marketplace," said Sherle Webb, vice president of Global Partner Sales at Sun. "CSC's customers directly benefit from the combined strengths and experience of two world-class companies that deliver end-to-end services and solutions that link technological and organizational changes holistically to achieve lasting business results."

For the past two years, CSC has been actively involved in Sun's global iForceSM Initiative program and opened three Authorized iForce Solution Centers in Portland, Oregon; Canberra, Australia; and Farnborough, UK. Sun's global network of iForce Centers are designed to help clients utilize Sun's Internet experience and proven methodologies for leveraging the network as the basis for building and testing individualized, best-in-class solutions prior to deploying them in their own environment.
