Volume 55, Issue 1

Beta testers are needed to help test SunTM Download Manager 1.0 (SDM) software, the world's first 100 percent JavaTM technology GUI-based download manager. The Sun Download Manager software works on any platform running JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SETM) v1.2.2 or higher (including SolarisTM 8 and 9 Operating Environment (Solaris OE), Linux, Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and Mac OS X), and uses patent-pending technology to improve the reliability of large file downloads (e.g., Solaris OE binaries) from the Sun Download Center and other HTTP download sites.

Key Features and Benefits

  • The Sun Download Manager software is an easy-to-use download manager with many useful, time-saving features. Sun Download Manager software's graphical user interface lets you start, stop, pause and resume downloads and even recovers from lost or dropped Internet connections -- a great time and bandwidth saver. You can queue up multiple files to download, click Start and walk away. Sun Download Manager software does the rest. There's even a built-in unzip utility.

  • Automatic real-time verification of large file downloads from Sun Download Center. New, patent-pending technology verifies the integrity of large files as they download. Bad segments are re-downloaded automatically so you get files that are complete and ready-to-install.

  • It's free.

Beta Program Information

If you are interested in the Sun Download Manager software Beta Program, please use the application whenever possible and provide feedback on problems encountered as well as where you used the tool successfully. Please send all feedback to sundown-support@sun.com.

Sun Download Manager software software is not supported by Sun. It is a free product created by a small team of busy engineers with limited capacity to provide technical support. Please read all of the information on the Help Page carefully before requesting further assistance. If you still have questions or bugs to report, please email:

sundown-support@sun.com

The team may not answer all questions received but will do their best to get back to you. The team will also keep a record of any bugs reported so they can be fixed in a future release.

The beta program will run during September 2002. Next steps will be announced on the Web page, so please check back from time to time:
